AFCON as a continental competition is motioning into the next realm; what are the new developments?
Today, the President of the Confederation of African Football, Mr Patrice Motsepe hosted the media in Rabat, Morocco where he revealed the governing body of the continent’s football policies’ intention to implement changes to some already existing policies pertaining to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Now, for every two years, qualified African nations step into the competition [AFCON] with pride whiles the entire Africa converge as one in a designated venue where, pride, passion and entertainment meets the game of football for one nation to hold up the star of Africa as the crowned champion of the sport.
The news from the Association’s president, Mr Patrice Motsepe have indicated that, the continent is no longer going to experience the two-year seasonal AFCON campaign – a new preposition policy has been asserted, “the African Cup of Nations will now be held every four years after the 2028 edition as 2029 edition will be brought a year forward.”
Further, it’s vital to note that, in the next edition which is scheduled to take place in three African nations, that is, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzanian, in 2027, will be the last edition of the two-year competition.

However, the AFCON will now motioned into the four year cycle period in the following year which then suggest that, after the 2027 AFCON, another AFCON would be organized in 2028, which is the following year then the four sequence would fall in place properly.
CAF president, Mr Patrice Motsepe then asserted that, CAF is set to roll out another nations league, dubbed the African Nations League which encompass all fifty-four nations in the continent of Africa.
This new competition would have the continent divided into four part, taking into consideration, the geographic position of every country. Further, the games will be held in the month of September and October and the finals is scheduled to take place in November.
