Accra Sports Stadium: “We’ll Ensure It Meets CAF Standards” – NSA D G Says

Accra Sports Stadium has been temporarily announced as “not fit for purpose” by the National Sports Authority (NSA) after thorough assessment of the facility had been conducted – necessitating the closure.

This announcement was made by the Director General of National Sports Authority (NSA) Hon. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah in an interview with local media outlet Asempa FM, where he alluded to the facts surrounding the deteriorating sporting facility.

Now, this new development from the NSA to close down the Accra Sports Stadium effectively plants a ripple effect on clubs who have initially conceived the plans of utilizing the sporting facility as their match-day venue in the Ghana Premier League.

“Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs or any other club that will play their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium must look for an alternative venue,” Hon. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah stated.

The Director General of National Sports Authority further stated that, as custodians of the facility, “… the Accra Sports Stadium will not be in use until Black Stars’ home game against The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“We will ensure the stadium is up to the standards set by CAF,” Hon. Yaw Ampofo Ankraha announced to the public via Asempa FM.
