CAF has instigated new regulations involving the top-two inter clubs competitions organized in Africa.
On January 30, 2025, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) being the organizers of the highest form of inter-club competitions in Africa known as the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup have made amendments to some parts of the regulation policy of the competitions.
In an official letter which was released by CAF indicated, the initial rules with respect to players who can not participate in either the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup by virtue of the fact that the player had feature for a club who had registered him to play in the said competition and have now joined another club which is also participating in the competition during the same season.
“The Confederation of African Football (CAF), today changed the player registration Regulations of the CAF Champions League and The CAF Confederation Cup, to allow football clubs to register a player, for the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup, who has participated in either of these CAF Competitions, for another football club, within the same football season,” the CAF letter indicated.

The mother football governing body in Africa further acknowledged the essence of the change in the regulations and the long-run positive impacts the change in the regulations would birth out.
“The amendments to these Regulations will contribute to the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup becoming attractive and appealing to football fans, TV spectators and to sponsors and partners in Africa and worldwide.”
What’s more, CAF now added that, the registration of players to participate in the various CAF inter-club competitions have been extended, “the CAF EXCO also took a resolution extending the Player Registration deadline of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup to 28 February, 2025.”
