The sporting director of FC Barcelona, Deco has described the criticism on Vitor Roque to perform at the club as “ugly”.
In Deco’s address to the question regarding what the future truly holds for the young Brazilian center-forward since he has been transferred on a loan deal to another Spanish La-Liga club, Real Betis until the end of the 2024/25 season.
“Since I have known Barcelona, I can’t remember such an ugly attack on a young player who came from abroad like on Vitor Roque. There was a malice. It hurts me a lot to see him in that situation, it was none of his fault. He suffered a lot but I’m happy now that he’s enjoying and scoring goals at Betis,” Deco iterated.
In his response to why the move for such a youngster, Vitor Roque in a very delicate position on the field of play and coming in to play for arguably the best club in the Spanish La-Liga was done in a haste?
“I can confirm that Vitor Roque joined in January as Xavi requested that to replace Gavi who was injured. Vitor did not have any responsibility. It is not his fault. He will show that he is a top player,” he answered in the interview with Mundodeportivo, a media firm based in Spain.
Further, Vitor Roque after failing to impress the immediate passed FC Barcelona head coach, Xavi Hernandez, has been now shipped to spend a long season loan move to Real Betis in order for him to pick up the pieces before he rejoins Hansi Flick in the 2025/26 campaign.
However, a permanent decision on Vitor Roque’s future at FC Barcelona has not been decided upon as it is possible he might make a case for himself as the future replacement for the veteran striker, Lewandowski which will all be determined by his performance and his output at the end of the ongoing season at Real Betis.
