2026 FIFA World Cup: “Ghana’s squad is now mature to compete” – Kurt Okraku

Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, Ghana Football Association president Kurt E.S Okraku has firmly asserted his opinions which suggest that the Black Stars are set to represent and make an impact at the Mundial.

In his recent interview aired on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation sister network, Mr Kurt Okraku with much delight on his face expressed words of hopefulness and huge expectations in the performance of Ghana at the World biggest football stage, “It’s a tournament and we have to be on top of our game.”

In this vein, the GFA boss did not hesitate to amplify the quality of oppositions Ghana have been paired with in the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, “yes, it is a tough group,”

He then pronounced solutions which will pave way for Ghana to make it out of the group stage, “we have to be competitive to make it to the next round,” whiles indicating that, the Black Stars chances of making it out of their group is a highly realistic target.

The Ghana national team have been paired with three other teams in Group L, that is, England, Croatia, and Panama. Many football pundits after the group pairings revealed that, Ghana’s group is possibly the ‘group of the death’ since the teams had quality materials to compete.

However, President Kurt Okraku held a personal view with respect to the advantages Ghana walks into the tournament with which maximizes their chances of making it out of Group L.

“What is good for us as a country is, Ghana in 2022 FIFA World Cup paraded one of the youngest teams in the World Cup – four years down the line, those boys who were 21 and 22 years are now 25 and 26 years and that means that they are a lot more mature,” Mr Kurt Okraku iterated.

Now, Ghana after existing the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the first round, failed to win a game in the AFCON hence had to exit the group stages and since then, the senior national team of Ghana has not participated in a major tournament. Can this 2026 FIFA World Cup redeem the lost national football glory of Ghana?
