Ivan Rakitic Shuts The Doors Of Professional Football; Announces Retirement

Ivan Rakitic has officially pronounced his retirement from professional football after a productive career.

In the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, the Croatian int’l, Ivan Rakitic finally announced to the football fraternity and the world, his decision to walk out of professional after successful exploits.

The 37-year-old legend of the game of football was largely known for his quality passing ability, ball control tied with his intelligence to anticipate opponents movements which always aided his side in picking up the needed results which in the long-run served soo much joy to the football fans.

Ivan Rakitic broke into the professional football scenes after inking his first contract with Swiss side, FC Bassel, then made a move to German Bundesliga side, Shalke 04, where he displayed great potentials as a young lad in the heart of midfield.

After few seasons, Rakitic’s performances on the field in every game he featured in as a youngster became so evidential that, there was no way any top Europe would turn a blind eye on.

In that vein, FC Barcelona at the time expressed interest insecuring the Croatian’s services since the club needed to find suitable replacement for the outgoing legend of the club, that is, Xavi Hernandez. Sooner than later, he join the Catalonian giants for an appreciable transfer fee.

After few years of plying his trade for FC Barcelona, he join Spanish La-Liga side, Sevilla where he succeeded in assuming leadership role of being the team’s captain.

Trophies won by Ivan Rakitic In His Career

Ivan Rakitic in his professional career as a footballer won seven enviable trophies. He won:

(1) 1x UEFA Champions League

(2) 4x Spanish La-Liga titles

(3) 2x Europa League Titles

(4) 4x Copa Del Rey titles

(5) 1x FIFA Club World Cup

(6) 1x Swiss Cup

(7) 1x German Cup

That being said, in Ivan Rakitic’s prime, he played a key role in his national team, Croatia, during their splendid spell at the 2018 FIFA  World Cup.

Today, the 37-year-old can after announcing his retirement can boast of nine hundred and ninety-three (993) appearances for both club and country; registering a hundred and forty (140) goals plus hundred and fifty-seven (157) assists.
