The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Hon. Samuel Nartey George has lamented on the severe unhealthy consequences illegal mining known as galamsey is posing to the innocent citizenry in the country.
On Tuesday, 24th September, 2024 took to his social media, fuming angrily on the health threats the illegal mining activities is posing to citizens in diverse ways as he condemned requested that his fellow political actors, leaders of the various religious groups, traditional leaders and ordinary Ghanaians who have found engaging in these disastrous activities avert with immediate effect for the betterment of the country.
“The damage to ourselves and our children by evil and wicked politicians, chiefs, clergy and ordinary Ghanaians engaged in illegal mining must be denounced by all.” He then quizzed, “how much money would assuage your conscience?”
According Hon. Sam George, “may all involved be cursed even to the 7th generation for the harm and pain they are causing our beautiful nation. This is just unacceptable and shame on those who have the power to stop this crime but are complicit and turn a blind eye.”
“May Heaven reward you all with great pain and suffering,” Hon Samuel Nartey George concluded.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Water Company have stated that, their cost of treating and producing hygienic water for their customers have doubled and that has affected the amount of water they can produce due to the illegal mining activities which has overly polluted the natural sources of water.
Further, many medical practitioner have revealed that, pregnant women who drink water or utilize the water in the preparation of foods for consumption from the polluted water bodies in the mining areas are likely to birth out disabled babies.
