Accra Hearts of Oak in a crunchy first league game of the season against Hohoe United have failed to snatch all three points.
The opening fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League was nothing short of exciting moments as the game between GPL giant, Accra Hearts of Oak and newly promoted side, Hohoe United proved ethos of tactics, individual brilliance and end-to-end action from both sides.
However, an astonishing outcome of the first league game prevailed – marginally disregarding what the book-makers and GPL pundits had anticipated ahead of the game tonight.
Analysis of the game:

In as much as Accra Hearts of Oak had the momentum in terms of which side had the chance of winning the game, taking into consideration, the fact that they were playing at their favorite home venue, having performed so well in the just ended GHALCA top-four and playing with the advantage of the twelve-man, which is their vociferous home-fans.
That did not seem to work in their first outing tonight since they could not pick up the needed three points to kick-start their season.
One thing stood-out in today’s game which eventually worked for the away team. Hohoe United was visiting an intimating home venue, knowing perfectly well that they had little or zero experience in the Ghana Premier League, it was clearly from how they played – they was nothing for them to loose hence, replicating the energy of staying true and positive on the field whiles playing which an undeniable confidence.

At no point did Hohoe United loose their head, they showed loads of competence in how they played, defended well, stayed compact in the heart of midfield, attacked as and when the opportunity posed itself.
That being said, the game ended with both side enjoying eight shot at goal, one shot on target for the home team and three for Hohoe United which further proved that the kind of attacking minds they possess.
Meanwhile, the blemish on the game was, both team at some point in the game chose to be very physical and hence, in the second-half, Hohoe United where left with ten men since the referee had to send S.Adomako out of the game for engaging Hamza Issah in a reckless tackle.
