Ghana Sports Fund: ‘I was encouraged by the strong solidarity’- Kofi Adams

Ghana Sports Fund Bill after been passed into law by the legislative arm of government has today seen funds donated into its accounts by Members of Parliament as they express full support.

As Ghana gets into the motion of restructuring its sports ecosystem under the resetting mantra of His Excellency the President John Dramani’s administration, sector minister, Honorable Kofi Iddie Adams has led the charge in developing policy frame work which seeks to serve as the primary financial source dedicated for sports related activities.

In that vein, Minister for Sports and Recreation during his briefings in Parliament today underline the ethos and significance of the Ghana Sports Funds, “the Ghana Sports Fund creates a structured, transparent and accountable frame work to support the infrastructure development, school and grassroot football, elite athlete preparations, welfare systems and recreation.”

“It allows us to move from adhoc allocations to creditable investments. It signals to the private sector that Sports and Recreation is not a favor, it is an industry,” Honorable Iddie said.

He then added that, the Ghana Sports Fund should be a nationalistic agenda which should not be limited to only the corporate world but to every citizen who wants to witness sports in Ghana at its highest level.

“… The National Investment Bank has demonstrated leadership with a donated of a hundred-thousand Ghana Cedis. That gesture must not stand alone, it must mark the beginning of a national movement.” Therefore, “in that spirit, I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Funds effective February 2026,” he stated.

With the Sports Funds being passed into law, Ghana as a country is now promised a committed source of funding which will be utilized for the construction of sports infrastructures aimed at developing the game at all levels.
