Chelsea have confirmed in an official club statement, citing a confidential financial agreements reached with Premier League side, Manchester City for signing Enzo Maresca.
Earlier today, the reigning club World Cup Champions put out a statement, communicating negotiations involving Manchester City for securing the services of Enzo Maresca, who had resigned half-way into the 2025/26 campaign.
For the uninitiated, Enzo Maresca prior to his decision to resign from his responsibilities as Chelsea’s head coach, had three years contract gluing him to the Londoners.
Obviously, his quest to part-ways with Chelsea did not automatically nullify his initial contract, binding him to the Blues hence, any possible suitor, keen on signing Maresca would have to settle some sort of financial obligations.
Chelsea in speaking to Enzo Maresca’s move to Manchester City indicated their stance, while adding the ethos for which the club had to respect Enzo Maresca’s decision.
“No club wants to change its head coach midway through a season. However, in light of his decision not to continue fulfilling his responsibilities through to the end of the season, the Club was left with no choice but to protect our players, our supporters, and the badge and accept his resignation,” Statement indicated.
In the last paragraph of Chelsea’s statement, the club revealed that, they have reached some financial obligations with Manchester City for securing the services of Enzo Maresca, who is technically tied to Chelsea.
“In the circumstances and given the mutual respect between clubs, a confidential settlement has been reached with Manchester City, which includes the payment of compensation. A confidential settlement has also been reached with the former Head Coach under which he will pay compensation,” Chelsea’s statement read.
