Renowned sports journalist Jerome Opoku has reacted to recent changes been made regarding the presidential term of office permitted at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In an early morning post published on the official X page (formerly known as Twitter) of Jerome Otchere highlighted a clear distained opinion, regarding the approved change in the number of term of office accepted as GFA President.
Speaking, Jerome Otchere cited precedence of such power-corruptible acts being indulged in by the Ghana Football Association under the President Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku’s administration.
“Straight from the political playbook across Africa and most third-world countries, this is how disappointing leaders who preside over unpopular constitutional changes on term limits speak.
“They are never clear on their real intents because they know the so-called third-term bids are not supported by the masses whom they claim to serve, yet are never in tune with them,’ he said.
Further details to Jerome Opoku’s submission indicated that, the 31st Ordinary Congress decision to vote on the expansion of an initial two-terms of four-years each to three-terms was a decision which would not see to the development of Ghana’s football.
“Kurt’s third-term bid is immoral, selfish, and, in the broader context, counterproductive to Ghana football’s development. It’s disgraceful that people who saw everything wrong with Kwesi Nyantakyi’s 13-year rule are openly supporting a likely 12-year reign of Kurt.” Mr Otchere said.
“Where are their [football people] principles?” Jerome Opoku quizzed. Adding that, “They have zero principles. God save all who still have faith in football leadership here [Ghana],” he iterated.
Now, per the new rulings being implemented, the current GFA president after his second term of office will be legally permitted to run for another third term of office should he declare his intentions.
