Athletic Bilbao have succeeded in cementing Spanish international, Nico Williams stay in a long-term contract.
In a long-awaited negotiations involving Nico Williams and his boyhood club, Athletic Bilbao have finally reached an agreement with the Spanish winger.
In as much as rumors since the opening of the 2025 summer transfer window had it that, the prolific winger was set to draw curtains down at the Basque club since he had receive keen interest from the Catalonian giant, FC Barcelona.
That being said, sources had also disclosed the transfer negotiations which was ongoing in the last few weeks between the camp of Nico Williams and FC Barcelona.
Why deal between Nico Williams and FC Barcelona have been disrupted
Transfer negotiations between the 22-year-old and FC Barcelona have been distorted due to several demands made by the player’s camp on behalf of the player which Barcelona have failed to meet the requirements.
Sources confirmed that, FC Barcelona succeeded in reaching an agreement with regards to the requested wages of the player.
Yet, when the agent of Nico Williams demanded for a guaranteed player registration clause for his player, the Catalonian side failed to provide a convincing negotiation arguments.
What does the future holds for Nico Williams
As Nico Williams inks a long-term deal with the Basque club, Athletic Bilbao have included a release clause worth over 90-million-Euros.
In addition, he is set receive a much more improved salary which will make him one of the highest paid players in the club.
More so, Williams has been assured the captain arm band in the near future since he will be at the club for up until 2035.
He is set to become one of the most influential players in the club even at his young age as he is interested in aiding the club enjoy a splendid campaign in the UEFA Champions League in the forthcoming season.
The 22-year-old made asserted in his contract extension announcement, “when it comes to making decision, the most important thing to do is listen to your heart. This is the place where I want to be, with my people. This is home.”
