The Ghana Police Service prosecutors have confirmed to the District Court at La-Accra, that the alleged student name Godwin Mawuli in the Oreilly Senior School who murdered his colleague is currently at the age of nineteen(19).
The accused student, Godwin Mawuli stabbed his colleague student, Edward Borketey Sackey, which led to his untimely death is currently under Police custody while thorough investigations are underway.
Further, the Ghana Police Service during their probe found out that, the accused person, Godwin Mawuli was born on the 10th of July, 2005 as the Police Prosecutors have confirmed to the court.
Therefore, this new development into the case has now permitted the District Court authority to handle the case till the duplicate case docket is presented to the Attorney General`s Office for advice to be received on committal proceedings.
After Her Worship Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi on Thursday, September 19, 2024, gave an ordered to the police prosecutors to feed the court with the accurate hospital report which indicated the actual age of Godwin Mawuli; the order was fulfilled by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei who was holding brief for the substantive prosecutor, as he presented not only the police hospital report but attached the date of birth on the accused’s BECE certificate, National Health Insurance card, and information on his House-2 forms at SHS, signed by his father had all pointed to the fact that he was born on the said date which was presented to court.
Plus, the prosecutor pledged to present the duplicate copy of the case docket to the office of the Attorney General by next for advice while he requested that the court proceed to remand the accused, Godwin Mawuli for investigation to be done.
However, the Magistrate shared a word of caution that the court would not be delighted to be informed in their next court meeting that the police prosecutors are still working on the duplicate case dockets.
According to the court, the Oreilly final year student who stabbed his classmate to death is provisionally charged with murder and the court proceedings have been adjourned to October 7, 2024, while probing by the police continues.
