Porcupine Warriors down arch rival Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to secure second Democracy Cup after, retaining an undefeated record in the competition’s finals.
The third edition of Democracy Cup did not serve mediocre performances as two giants in the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak battled it out at the capital of Asante region for one trophy.
Both side walked out of the tunnel with a singular interest of winning the revered Democracy Cup title – a trophy competition which per last two editions is gradually warming it way into Ghana’s football calendar.
With both sides poised for action, the visiting side, Hearts of Oak, in the initial stages of the game exhibited a clear intent of seeking to build up from the back – tactical instruction being champion by the veteran goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Hearts of Oak with the likes of Martin kakari John Antwi and Mohammed Hussein worked to build a proper attacking threat which caused numerous qualms to the defensive side of Asante Kotoko
However, a backline being led experienced goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad seemingly found an antidote to the attacking threats posed by the relatively energetic frontline of Hearts of Oak.
On the other side, Hubert Gyau spearheading the Asante Kotoko’a attacking and being anchor by Richard Boadu played a significant role in working on penetrating the defense of their opponent.
After 90-minutes plus additional time, both sides had failed to find the back of the net, with the goalkeepers keeping their clean sheet in normal tie hence, progressing the game into penalty kicks.
In five-aside penalty kicks, Ibrahim Danlad ended up producing two excellent saves from the first two kicks of Hearts of Oak whereas Asante Kotoko failed to miss out on any of their kicks hence, ending the kicks as victors in a 4-1 result.
