Post-Match Interview: We’ll Build Our Confidence And Start Winning Games -Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola after loosing to Liverpool during the weekend English premier league games.

Liverpool FC were at their home venue, Anfield, as they hosted the reigning English premier league champions, Manchester City as one of the match-week thirteen league games for the weekend on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Prior to the game, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola had been in a tight corner as he was experiencing a four games winless streak in the English premiership and therefore, was immensely bruised to turn things around in the title contending game against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the successor of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Arne Slot has been in a good run of form as he has been grinding the needed results in both the league games and in all the competitions he has managed for Liverpool this season.

However, Liverpool heading into this game had overturned the story of them not registering a win against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions league for the past fifteen years in mid-week whiles Manchester City had failed to protect a three goal lead against Feyenoord and hence, all factors were pointing to the fact that, Liverpool had an upper hand over Manchester City.

Therefore, as football is largely based on statistics, Arne Slot paraded all his available arsenals while Pep Guardiola was missing out on some of his key players, from the likes of Rodrigo Cascante Hernandez due to injury, his first choice safe pair of hands, Ederson Moraes due to technical reasons plus, Nathan Ake, Guardiol and Jeremy Doku, due to various forms of injuries.

Liverpool did not hesitate to pile pressure in the early stages of the game as they recorded the first goal just after twelve minutes of time played, kind courtesy, Coady Gakpo which was enough for them to keep clam, proceed to dominate and finally, in the second half, on the seventy-eight, from twelve yards out, the Egyptian king, Mohammed Salah buried the ball at the back of the net as referee awarded his side a penalty for a foul committed in the eighteen yard box.

Which means that, Liverpool are now top of the league table with thirteen-four and eighteen goals difference after thirteen games as Arsenal occupy the second position on the league standing with twenty five points and twelve goals difference.

Taking a look at the underwhelming performances being put up by Pep Guardiola and his boys week-in-week out, the Liverpool fans after their team were cruising by two goals with no consolation goals by Manchester City, they began singing “you’re getting sacked in the morning” and Guardiola had reacted in his post match-interview saying, “maybe they are right! I didn’t expect that at Anfield. Maybe they should’ve sung it in the past…

“I didn’t expect it from the people from Liverpool, but it’s fine. I’m so proud of my six Premier League titles! I didn’t expect Anfield to say I will be sacked in the morning… but it’s fine, it is what it is. When you win, you laugh,” Guardiola said.

Further, Manchester City have zero wins in the last seven games in all competitions; Pep Guardiola when quizzed about his intention to solve his side’s winless streak deficiency, “from here, we will start building our confidence and winning games. I want the team back, I want my players back… we will reset from here. I can feel that.”
