A constituent of Kpone Katamanso Constituency has jabbed the government for its failure to implement an efficient and fruitful Free Senior High School Policy which would positively impact the country.
The resident of Kpone Katamanso expressed her plight as she had the opportunity to speak on TV3, a local media television station, during a segment on the TV3 New-Day morning show dubbed, “Community Manifesto” on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
According to the female resident, the current government being led by President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo did not implement their flagship policy, Free Senior High School Policy properly as she also seized the opportunity to recount the economic struggles she went through in providing the basic needs including transport for her child to be in school.
“It is true that the NPP has implemented the Free Education Policy, but the when you are a student enrolled in the free education, you won`t just pick up your bag and go to free education.
“You will be home after two weeks of being in school if you are a student of Free Education. We the parents, the business that we do, that is what we give to our children to use as transport and buying of provision before they go to school.
“Initially, if you complete Junior High School and you pass, that is when you gain admission into the Senior High School but now, whether you pass or not, you will still gain admission. Right now, all of our children have gone to school and after, they have become head potters in Ghana,” she said.
The Free Secondary Education Policy was the main flagship campaign promise prior to the 2016 general elections. President Akuffo Addo truthfully stuck to his words as he did not hesitate to implement the policy after seven months into office in 2017. Since then, the policy has chopped some successes however, it is still being faced with many challenges such as finance for the provision of quality foods for students.
Meanwhile, the Flagbearer of the leading opposition political party in Ghana, Former President John Dramani Mahama has pledge to improve on the quality of the Free Senior High School Policy.
