Esquire Oliver Barker Vormawor has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly engaging in unlawful activities during the three days demonstration dubbed “StopGalamseyNow” held in Ghana’s capital, Greater Accra region.
In a press statement issued out by the Ghana Police Service on Monday September 23, 2024 indicated that, one of the leaders of Democracy Hub, Mr Oliver Barker Vormawor, who is a legal practitioner has been arrested for involving himself in numerous unlawful activities in the first and second day of the protest against the illegal mining menace.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested Oliver Barker Vormawor , one of the leaders of Democracy Hub for the various unlawful acts he was involved in on Saturday 21st September and Sunday, 22nd September at the 37 Intersection in Accra.”

In details, the protest which was organized by a protest movement known as Democracy Hub was with the intentions of protesting against the overwhelming destruction of illegal mining which is causing harm to the country’s forest reserves, polluting the water bodies and degrading the arable lands Ghana posses in the various mining areas.
However, as the protest was dubbed “StopGalamseyNow” saw many protestors in sway away from the demonstration as they destroyed the two major political parties in this country, National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party paraphernalia.
These actions taken by the protestors triggered the anger of especially the leaders in the New Patriotic party who demanded that, the protestors should desist from causing any harm to their properties.
