Michael Essien has responded to Ghanaians being overly expectant when players born abroad are introduced into the Black-Stars.
The former Ghana Black-Stars midfielder, Michael Essien has called out Ghanaians who have the culture of always depositing their hopes in Ghanaian players who were born abroad and have been invited to play for the national team.
In an interview, the Chelsea legend claimed that, Ghanaians who are pointing fingers to several factors which is hindering the foreign players from performing and churning out the needed results for the men’s senior football team of Ghana are not being honest to themselves.

“Ghanaians can be funny sometimes. When we bring in players to play for us, and they do not play well, we will say, ‘oh, they do not know our culture and stuff’,” Michael Essien asserted.
He then responded to the question with respect to how good Thomas Partey is as compared to him, “between myself and Thomas Partey in our primes, I don’t think I would pick myself. I would go for Partey. He is a fantastic midfielder you know,” Essien said.
