Two Chelsea stars have opted to switch national team camp as the first international breaks is forthcoming.
The nationality switch norm is gaining a whisk of interest from football players across the globe as a chunk of professionals in the game of football would not want to miss out on representing their countries on the international stage.
In recapping, the most recent nationality switch has been the Mason Greenwood, who has made a bold decision of neglecting the Three Lions as he wishes to represent the Reggae Boys on the international front.
Presently, it’s been seven days now since the news with regards to Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesly Ugochukwo who were both eligible to play for two European giants, England and France respectively are in an inch close of switching to play for one of the African football national team power houses, Nigeria.
As per reports by an unidentified official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), “They are not in the list of players for the [2026 FIFA] World Cup qualifiers in March, rather they are in an enlarged list of players submitted by the technical director of the NFF, Austine Eguavoen, to the coach. It’s now up to Eric Chelle to convince them to switch to Nigeria,” he narrated.
He further recounted the possibilities of Chukwuemeka switching his allegiance to play for the Nigeria national team, “For Chukwuemeka, it’s all positive for some time now, but that of Ugochukwu, I am not sure he wants to play for Nigeria after breaking into the French setup. Like I said, they are not in consideration for the games but in the plans of the coach if they decide to switch.
“I can tell you that one player is already neck-deep in the process, but I am sorry I can’t reveal his identity for now. He is the only one that has formally applied to play for Nigeria, and we are working on it,” he added.
